Hair Adventures of Priya – Part 3

Hair Adventures of Priya – Part 3

College Boycut at the Barbershop

---

A New Beginning

Priya had always believed that hair was more than just something that grew on her head—it was a symbol of her choices, her defiance, and, most importantly, her control over herself.

Now, at 19, stepping into college, she finally had complete freedom. No one was forcing her to cut her hair, and no one was stopping her from growing it either. But something had changed.

For years, she had fought to keep her hair long, dreading the summer cuts. But ever since that day in the bathroom, when she had taken the scissors into her own hands, something inside her had shifted.

She had started liking short hair.

She had kept it at a manageable length—never too long, never too short. A neat bob that framed her face well. But as she settled into college life, she began noticing something.

Her friends were experimenting with their looks—some dyed their hair, some got new styles, some even shaved the sides for an edgy look. Priya, for the first time, felt an itch to do something bold again.

The thought lingered in her mind for weeks.

And then, one day, she made her decision.

She was going to get a boycut.

A proper one.

Not at a salon.

At a barbershop.

The Decision

"Are you serious?" her roommate, Aditi, asked, eyes wide with shock.

Priya nodded. "Yeah. I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I want to go really short this time."

"But why a barbershop? Why not a salon?"

Priya smirked. "Because I want the real experience. I want to sit in a proper barber’s chair, have them use the clippers, and just… go for it."

Aditi shook her head. "You’re insane."

"Maybe," Priya admitted, "but I’m excited."

So that weekend, she walked into town, searching for a barbershop.

She had never been inside one before. It was always salons—places where they massaged your scalp, trimmed your hair delicately, and styled it with care.

But Priya didn’t want delicate.

She wanted something drastic.

Something liberating.

The Barbershop Experience

The small barbershop she found wasn’t fancy. It was a simple, old-school shop with a red-and-white striped pole outside.

Inside, the place smelled of aftershave and talcum powder. Men sat in waiting chairs, flipping through newspapers. The sound of clippers buzzed in the air, mixing with the casual banter between the barbers and their customers.

Priya hesitated for a moment.

Would they even agree to cut her hair?

Would they laugh?

Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside.

The barber, a burly man in his 40s with salt-and-pepper hair, looked up from his chair. His eyebrows lifted slightly in surprise.

"Yes, madam?" he asked.

Priya straightened her shoulders. "I want a haircut."

He glanced at her shoulder-length bob. "Trim?"

"No," Priya said, her voice steady. "I want a boycut. Short."

The barber studied her for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. Take a seat."

She exhaled, relieved that he didn’t question her further.

She walked up to the large, leather chair and settled into it. The chair felt firm, unfamiliar. Unlike the salon chairs she was used to, this one was heavier, sturdier.

The barber draped a striped cape over her, fastening it snugly around her neck.

"How short do you want it?" he asked, running a comb through her hair.

Priya thought for a second.

She had come this far.

Might as well go all the way.

"Use the clippers," she said. "I want it really short at the back and sides."

The barber raised an eyebrow but nodded.

"As you wish."

The Buzzing Begins

He picked up a spray bottle and misted her hair with water, the cool droplets sending a shiver down her spine. Then, he parted her hair neatly, sectioning the top away from the sides.

And then came the moment she had been waiting for.

The barber grabbed a large pair of electric clippers and flicked them on.

Bzzzzzzzzzz…

The deep, steady hum filled the shop.

Priya's heart pounded. She gripped the armrests, bracing herself.

The barber gently pressed her head forward.

"Stay still," he instructed.

She nodded, her chin resting against her chest.

Then, with one smooth motion, he brought the clippers to the nape of her neck and pushed them upward.

The vibration tickled her skin as she felt the first strip of hair being shaved away.

Chunks of her dark hair tumbled down her shoulders, falling onto the cape.

She bit her lip, her breath quickening.

The barber continued, running the clippers up the back of her head, moving with precision. More and more hair slid down, landing in a growing pile on the floor.

Aditi, who had insisted on coming with her, stared in shock.

"Oh my God," she whispered.

Priya grinned.

The sensation was unlike anything she had ever felt before. The lightness, the cool air touching the freshly clipped skin at her nape—it was exhilarating.

The barber moved to the sides, tilting her head slightly.

Bzzzzzz…

More hair fell, exposing her ears completely.

She could feel the difference already—her head felt free.

The Final Touches

Once the sides and back were neatly shaved down, the barber switched to scissors for the top.

He snipped quickly, blending the longer strands, shaping the cut into a sleek, stylish boycut.

Priya watched in the mirror, fascinated.

The girl staring back at her was almost unrecognizable.

She looked older. Sharper. Confident.

Finally, the barber dusted off her neck with a soft brush, then removed the cape with a flourish.

She ran a hand over her head, feeling the short, bristly texture at the back.

It was perfect.

She turned to Aditi, who still looked stunned.

"Well?" Priya asked, grinning.

Aditi blinked. "You… you actually did it."

Priya laughed. "I told you I would."

She paid the barber, thanking him before stepping out into the warm afternoon sun.

The breeze hit the back of her freshly shaved neck, sending a thrill through her.

It felt amazing.

She felt unstoppable.

For years, she had fought against haircuts.

Now, she had walked into a barbershop, asked for the shortest cut of her life, and loved every second of it.

And she knew one thing for certain—this wouldn’t be her last visit to a barbershop.

Maybe next time, she’d go even shorter.
